Turgutreis is situated in the furthest west point of the Bodrum peninsula. It is named after the famous sea captain Turgut Reis, this town has developed quite rapidly becoming the largest settlement on the peninsula after Bodrum.
A distance of 20 kilometers from Bodrum, Turgutreis is spread throughout a rich valley well planted with orchards and vegetable gardens. Çatal Island and many other islands of various sizes fan out in front of the town protecting it from westerly storms. These islands and the sea surrounding them make a spectacular backdrop for the setting sun, providing some of the most beautiful sun-sets in the world.
The opening of the new 5* marina has improved yacht tourism in the area with a 500 yacht capacity with daily entry and exit. The marina will also facilitate the docking of cruise liners by 2006.
With no humidity and six months of non-stop sunshine (May – October) with not a drop of rain, this area of Turkey has a fantastic climate also making it popular with tourists. With sea temperatures ranging from 25 to 16 degrees Celsius between summer and winter, the Bodrum Peninsula is a great location for a diving holiday at any time of the year.
Turgutreis has a market every Saturday and Wednesday. The markets are so renowned that people come from the nearby islands to buy fresh fruit, vegetables, spices, farm dairy produce, homemade jams, clothes and gifts.
Elsewhere in Turgutreis, small boutiques offer latest hits, hand-made sandals are crafted; fezzes and harem slippers are sold side by side with baseball caps and T-shirts bearing universally recognized logos and humorous or bawdy captions. In the marina there are designer boutiques such as Emporio Armani.
If shopping and diving does not interest you; Turgutreis has over 2km of sandy beach. There are daily boat trips to various Turkish islands and daily ferries to the Greek island of Kos. Watersports include jet skiing, water skiing, parasailing and banana boats. Fishing around Turgutreis is a way of life to the locals, tackle can be bought at a small price. The prize being seabream or seabass. Some locals are willing to take tourists game fishing for shark. There is a local gym, tennis courts and a football pitch for the more energetic.
There are regular trips to a nearby village where you can see carpets in the process of being hand woven. A traditional Turkish Bath is available only a short distance away. Where highly skilled masseurs work away the stresses and strains of the last year. Horse riding is available close by and camel riding on certain beaches is also offered. Trekking to higher areas offers some extremely picturesque views of the sea and the mountains. There are five grain windmills to be seen just a short hike from Turgutreis.

It has a shared pool and is only 20 metres from the sandy beach and 150 metres from the town centre. It has a separate kitchen diner, a lounge that seats 8 with an open fire, air conditioning to all rooms, a downstairs toilet and a terrace which looks onto the shared pool and gardens. There are 2 double bedrooms and 2 twin rooms and 1 of the sofas converts into a bed so the villa can sleep ten. The main bathroom has a fitted shower with cubicle and the second floor bathroom has a jacuzzi. The villa has laundry facilities and is very well equipped. It also boasts a split roof terrace for private sunbathing. It is in a prime location and has been built and finished to a high standard. Treat yourself to a fantastic holiday in one of the most beautiful places on earth. |
